Description

A delightful twist on the classic strawberry pretzel salad, this recipe adds crunchy pecans to the pretzel crust for extra texture and a rich nutty flavor. It features a buttery pretzel-pecan base, a creamy sweetened cream cheese layer, and a bright strawberry gelatin topping with fresh strawberries, making it a perfect layered dessert for gatherings and celebrations.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 1/2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 3 tablespoons sugar

Cream Layer

  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 8 oz whipped topping

Strawberry Gelatin Layer

  • 6 oz strawberry gelatin
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, mix together crushed pretzels, chopped pecans, melted butter, and sugar until well combined. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a baking pan to form an even layer. Bake the crust for 10 minutes, then remove it from the oven and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Make the cream layer: In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and sugar together until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Gently fold in the whipped topping until fully incorporated. Spread this cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled pretzel crust. Place the pan in the refrigerator to chill and set while you prepare the gelatin layer.
  3. Prepare the strawberry gelatin layer: Dissolve the strawberry gelatin powder in 2 cups of boiling water, stirring until completely dissolved. Allow the gelatin to cool slightly but not set. Add the sliced strawberries to the gelatin mixture, combining gently.
  4. Assemble and chill: Carefully pour the strawberry gelatin and strawberry mixture over the chilled cream layer, spreading evenly. Return the entire salad to the refrigerator and refrigerate until the gelatin is fully set, approximately 3-4 hours or overnight for best results.

Notes

  • Lightly toast the pecans before mixing into the crust for a deeper, more robust flavor and added crunch.
  • Ensure all layers are well sealed and chilled to maintain the salad’s structure and prevent sogginess.
