Description
A simple yet elegant skillet dish featuring tender sirloin steak strips and savory mushrooms cooked together in a rich garlic herb butter sauce, perfect for a quick and satisfying American-style main course.
Ingredients
Steak and Mushrooms
- 1 lb sirloin steak, sliced into strips
- 2 cups mushrooms, sliced (use cremini or button mushrooms)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/4 cup beef broth
Instructions
- Season Steak: Season the sirloin steak strips evenly with salt, black pepper, and dried rosemary to infuse the beef with flavor.
- Heat Oil and Sear Steak: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak strips and sear for 2–3 minutes until browned on all sides. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside to prevent overcooking.
- Sauté Mushrooms: In the same skillet, melt butter then add the sliced mushrooms. Cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms turn golden and release their moisture.
- Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Simmer with Broth: Pour in the beef broth to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits for added flavor. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes to reduce slightly and meld the flavors.
- Combine Steak and Mushrooms: Return the seared steak strips to the skillet, stirring to combine. Cook for another 1–2 minutes until the steak is heated through and coated in the sauce.
- Serve: Remove from heat and serve hot, ideally over mashed potatoes or rice for a complete meal.
Notes
- Use cremini or button mushrooms for best flavor and texture.
- Consider deglazing the pan with a splash of balsamic vinegar instead of beef broth for an extra depth of flavor.
- This dish pairs wonderfully when served over mashed potatoes or steamed rice.
