Ingredients
Meat and Sauce
- 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage
- ½ cup onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz marinara sauce
- 1 ½ cups water
Pasta
- 8 oz lasagna noodles, broken into pieces
Cheeses
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan
Seasoning
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the Meat and Onion: In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or Italian sausage along with the diced onion over medium heat until fully cooked and the onion is soft. Drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the dish from becoming greasy.
- Add Garlic and Sauce: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Pour in the marinara sauce and water, then bring the mixture to a simmer to meld the flavors.
- Cook the Noodles: Add the broken lasagna noodles to the skillet. Stir to combine, then cover and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent the noodles from sticking. Cook until the noodles are tender and have absorbed most of the liquid.
- Add the Cheeses: Dollop spoonfuls of ricotta cheese evenly over the skillet mixture. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese on top.
- Melt the Cheese: Cover the skillet again and cook for an additional 5 minutes over low heat until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from heat and let sit for a couple of minutes before serving to allow the lasagna to set.
Notes
- You can substitute cottage cheese for ricotta cheese if preferred for a different texture and flavor.
- Garnish with freshly chopped basil or parsley before serving to add a fresh herbal note and enhance presentation.
