Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp sage or thyme
Wet Ingredients
- 6 tbsp cold butter, cubed
- ½ cup pumpkin purée
- ¼ cup buttermilk
- ½ cup shredded sharp cheddar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to get it ready for baking.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sage or thyme until well mixed.
- Cut in Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients. Use a fork or pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the pumpkin purée, buttermilk, and shredded sharp cheddar cheese until just combined to form a soft dough.
- Shape Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a round disc about 1-inch thick.
- Cut Into Wedges: Slice the disc into 8 equal wedges using a sharp knife or bench scraper.
- Bake: Place the wedges on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 18–20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve: Allow the scones to cool slightly and serve warm, optionally with butter or alongside your favorite soup.
Notes
- Serve warm with butter or alongside soup for a comforting treat.
- Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dough for a subtle spicy kick.
