Description

This Sausage & Croissant Breakfast Casserole is a rich, fluffy, and irresistibly buttery dish combining flaky croissants, savory breakfast sausage, eggs, and melted cheese. Perfect as a make-ahead meal, it’s ideal for holidays, brunch gatherings, or leisurely weekend mornings.

Ingredients

Sausage and Croissant

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 4 large croissants, torn into bite-size pieces

Egg Mixture

  • 8 large eggs
  • 1½ cups milk or half-and-half
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

Cheese and Garnish

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
  • ¼ cup green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until it is nicely browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease to keep the casserole from being too oily.
  3. Layer Croissants: Evenly spread the torn croissant pieces across the bottom of the prepared baking dish, creating a fluffy base.
  4. Add Sausage: Sprinkle the cooked sausage evenly over the croissant pieces for a savory layer.
  5. Prepare Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk (or half-and-half), salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until fully combined and smooth.
  6. Pour Egg Mixture: Pour the seasoned egg mixture evenly over the croissant and sausage layers in the baking dish.
  7. Add Cheese: Generously sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella (or Monterey Jack) cheeses evenly over the top of the casserole.
  8. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, or until the eggs are set completely and the top turns golden brown.
  9. Rest and Garnish: Remove casserole from oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with sliced green onions for a fresh, vibrant finish.
