Description

A flavorful baked ham coated in a tangy mustard and herb glaze, creating a perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors. This classic dish is ideal for holidays or special dinners, offering a tender and aromatic centerpiece that impresses guests and family alike.

Ingredients

Ham

  • 1 fully cooked ham (about 2–3 kg)

Glaze

  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) to ensure it reaches the optimal temperature for baking the ham evenly.
  2. Prepare Ham: Place the fully cooked ham in a roasting pan to catch any drippings and prepare it for glazing.
  3. Make Glaze: In a mixing bowl, combine the Dijon mustard, whole grain mustard, honey, olive oil, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and black pepper, stirring until smooth and well blended.
  4. Glaze Ham: Brush the mustard and herb glaze evenly over the surface of the ham, making sure to cover all sides for maximum flavor.
  5. Initial Baking: Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil to retain moisture and bake it in the preheated oven for 1 to 1.5 hours, basting occasionally with the pan juices or additional glaze to keep it moist and flavorful.
  6. Caramelize Glaze: Remove the foil and continue baking the ham uncovered for an additional 15 to 20 minutes to allow the glaze to caramelize and develop a delicious, slightly crispy exterior.
  7. Rest and Serve: Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing to allow the juices to redistribute. Slice the ham and serve warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham reaches a proper internal temperature for safe serving (about 60°C or 140°F when reheating a fully cooked ham).
  • For extra flavor, stud the ham with whole cloves before glazing.
  • Let the ham rest after baking to retain juices and enhance tenderness.
