Ingredients
Bars
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Maple Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and to make removal easier.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup until well combined and smooth.
- Add Egg and Vanilla: Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract into the wet mixture, mixing thoroughly to blend all flavors.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to ensure even distribution.
- Mix Dry into Wet: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring just until combined to form a smooth batter without overmixing.
- Spread Batter and Bake: Pour and evenly spread the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the bars are set and lightly golden around the edges.
- Cool Completely: Remove the bars from the oven and let them cool completely in the pan; this ensures the glaze will set properly.
- Prepare Maple Glaze: Whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until the glaze is smooth and spreadable.
- Glaze the Bars: Spread the maple glaze evenly over the cooled bars to coat the top.
- Let Set and Serve: Allow the glaze to set and harden slightly before cutting the bars into squares for serving.
Notes
- Use pure maple syrup rather than imitation syrup to achieve the best and most authentic maple flavor.
- For added texture and flavor, consider folding in chopped pecans or walnuts into the batter before baking.
- Make sure the bars are completely cooled before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting and running off.
- Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
