Description

These Irresistible Date Energy Balls are naturally sweet, chewy, and packed with wholesome ingredients. Made with soft dates, nuts, and a touch of cocoa, they are the perfect no-bake snack for busy days, post-workout fuel, or a healthy dessert. Quick to prepare and easy to store, they make a satisfying bite-sized treat.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup soft Medjool dates, pitted
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup chopped almonds or walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Pinch of salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup almond butter (or peanut butter)
  • 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Soak Dates: If the dates are dry, soak them in warm water for 5–10 minutes to soften, then drain well to remove excess water.
  2. Blend Dates: Add the dates to a food processor and blend until they form a sticky, smooth paste, which will act as the natural sweetener and binder for the balls.
  3. Add Ingredients: Add the rolled oats, nut butter, chopped nuts, chia seeds, unsweetened cocoa powder, honey or maple syrup (if using), vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt to the food processor.
  4. Mix: Pulse the mixture until it is well combined and sticks together when pressed between your fingers. Avoid over-processing to retain some texture from the oats and nuts.
  5. Form Balls: Scoop about 1 tablespoon of mixture per ball and roll it between your palms to form a smooth, compact ball.
  6. Chill: Place the rolled balls on a lined tray and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to firm up and set the shape.
  7. Store: Transfer the energy balls to an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator for up to one week for optimal freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute sunflower seed butter for a nut-free option.
  • Add shredded coconut or mini dark chocolate chips for extra texture and flavor.
  • If the mixture feels too dry, add 1–2 teaspoons of water or nut milk to help it bind better.
  • These energy balls freeze well for up to 3 months, making them great for meal prep.
