Description
A soft and slightly sweet homemade cornbread served warm with rich maple butter topping, perfect for pairing with soups, stews, or enjoying on its own for a comforting treat.
Ingredients
Cornbread
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup melted butter
Maple Butter
- ½ cup softened butter
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8-inch baking pan to prepare it for the cornbread batter.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until evenly combined.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the milk, eggs, and melted butter thoroughly until well blended.
- Combine wet and dry mixtures: Pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the cornbread tender.
- Pour batter into pan: Transfer the batter into the greased 8-inch baking pan, smoothing the top evenly.
- Bake the cornbread: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Prepare maple butter: While the cornbread bakes, combine the softened butter, maple syrup, and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Serve: Remove the cornbread from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve warm slices topped with a generous spread of the maple butter for a delicious balance of sweetness and warmth.
Notes
- Use real maple syrup for the best authentic flavor.
- This cornbread pairs excellently with hearty soups and stews.
