Ingredients
Steak
- 4 steaks, such as sirloin, strip steak, or ribeye
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
Herbed Butter
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 garlic clove, finely minced
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tsp fresh rosemary, chopped
- 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Herbed Butter: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix the softened unsalted butter with minced garlic, chopped parsley, rosemary, thyme, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt until well combined.
- Shape and Chill Butter: Shape the herb butter mixture into a small log using parchment paper. Wrap tightly and refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes, to maintain shape and flavor.
- Season the Steaks: Rub each steak evenly with olive oil, then season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder on both sides to enhance the meat’s flavor.
- Preheat Cooking Surface: Heat a grill or a heavy skillet over high heat until very hot for perfect sear and grill marks.
- Cook the Steaks: Place the steaks on the grill or skillet and cook for 3 to 5 minutes on each side depending on the thickness and your preferred doneness level, achieving a nicely seared crust.
- Rest the Steaks: Transfer the cooked steaks to a plate and place a slice of the chilled herbed butter on top of each steak to melt while resting for 5 to 10 minutes. This allows juices to settle and flavors to intensify.
- Serve: Serve the steaks garnished with additional herbed butter if desired, accompanied by your favorite sides for a complete meal.
Notes
- The herb butter can be prepared up to 1 week ahead and stored refrigerated to save time on the day of cooking.
- Bring the steaks close to room temperature before cooking to ensure even cooking and better tenderness.
- The same herb butter pairs wonderfully with chicken, vegetables, or grilled seafood for versatile use.
