Description
A hearty and flavorful chili con carne made with ground beef, kidney beans, diced tomatoes, and a blend of bold spices, simmered to perfection. This classic Mexican-inspired dish is perfect for a comforting dinner and pairs beautifully with rice or cornbread.
Ingredients
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Beans and Tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
Spices and Seasonings
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Brown the Beef: In a large skillet or pot over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it starts to brown, breaking it apart with a spoon. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, and continue to cook until the onion is translucent and the beef is fully browned.
- Add Beans, Tomatoes, and Spices: Stir in the kidney beans, diced tomatoes (with their juice), chili powder, and ground cumin. Mix well to combine all the ingredients evenly.
- Simmer the Chili: Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the chili simmer for 30 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and allow the flavors to meld together.
Notes
- Serve the chili with warm rice or classic cornbread for a complete meal.
- If you prefer a spicier chili, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chopped jalapeños.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
