Description

Hawaiian Teriyaki Burgers are juicy beef patties grilled to perfection and topped with sweet grilled pineapple rings, melted Swiss cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato, and red onion. Drizzled with a rich teriyaki sauce and served on toasted buns, these burgers offer a delicious balance of sweet, savory, and smoky flavors perfect for summer cookouts or easy weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Beef Patties

  • 1½ pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Burgers

  • 4 hamburger buns, split
  • 4 pineapple rings (fresh or canned, drained)
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • ½ cup teriyaki sauce, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 tomato slices
  • 4 red onion slices
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat to ensure it’s hot enough for grilling the patties and pineapple effectively.
  2. Prepare Patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently, then form into 4 equal-sized patties to ensure even cooking.
  3. Brush with Teriyaki: Lightly brush each patty with 2 tablespoons of the teriyaki sauce for flavor and caramelization during grilling.
  4. Grill Patties: Place the patties on the grill and cook for 4–5 minutes per side or until reaching your preferred level of doneness. Avoid pressing down to keep them juicy.
  5. Melt Cheese: In the last minute of grilling, top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and close the lid (if using a grill) or cover to help the cheese melt smoothly.
  6. Grill Pineapple: Place pineapple rings on the grill and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until they develop light caramelization marks and a smoky-sweet flavor.
  7. Toast Buns: Lightly toast the hamburger buns on the grill until golden and slightly crispy, enhancing texture and flavor.
  8. Assemble Burgers: Spread mayonnaise on the bottom halves of the buns if using. Layer lettuce leaf, tomato slice, a cheesy burger patty, grilled pineapple ring, and red onion slice. Drizzle with remaining teriyaki sauce for added richness.
  9. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions on top if desired, then close with the top bun and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Fresh pineapple rings are recommended for optimal flavor and caramelization but canned pineapple can be used as a substitute.
  • Cheddar or provolone cheese can be swapped in place of Swiss cheese depending on preference.
  • Pair these burgers with fries, coleslaw, or a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
  • Leftover cooked patties can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the toppings.
