Description

A hearty and comforting American casserole featuring seasoned ground beef, tender green beans, and a creamy mushroom sauce, all topped with melted cheddar cheese and crispy fried onions for a satisfying family meal.

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) green beans, drained

Dairy and Condiments

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Seasonings and Toppings

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1½ cups crispy fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  2. Cook Ground Beef and Onion: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  4. Prepare Sauce Mixture: Add the cream of mushroom soup, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine into a creamy sauce.
  5. Combine Green Beans and Cheese: Fold in the drained green beans and half of the shredded cheddar cheese, ensuring everything is evenly mixed.
  6. Assemble Casserole: Transfer the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Smooth the top evenly.
  7. Add Toppings: Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese and half of the crispy fried onions evenly over the casserole’s surface.
  8. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the cheese to melt.
  9. Add Final Topping: Remove the casserole and sprinkle the remaining crispy fried onions on top.
  10. Bake Again: Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp the fried onions.
  11. Serve: Remove from oven and let it cool slightly before serving hot for a comforting meal.

Notes

  • Fresh or frozen green beans can be substituted for canned green beans for a different texture and flavor.
  • Adding sliced mushrooms can enhance the casserole with extra flavor and texture.
