Description

Classic Strawberry Pretzel Salad is a delightful sweet and salty layered dessert featuring a crunchy pretzel crust, a rich and creamy middle layer, and a refreshing strawberry gelatin topping that is perfect for summer gatherings or any festive occasion.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 3 tablespoons sugar

Cream Layer

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 8 oz whipped topping

Strawberry Topping

  • 6 oz strawberry gelatin (Jello)
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups sliced strawberries

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, combine the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and sugar. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of a baking dish. Bake for 10 minutes to set the crust, then remove from the oven and let it cool completely.
  2. Make the cream layer: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar together until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in the whipped topping to maintain the light texture. Spread this cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled pretzel crust. Place it in the refrigerator to chill.
  3. Prepare the strawberry gelatin: Dissolve the strawberry gelatin in 2 cups of boiling water, stirring well until fully dissolved. Allow the gelatin to cool slightly so it is not hot but still liquid. Stir in the sliced strawberries gently.
  4. Assemble the dessert: Pour the cooled strawberry gelatin and strawberry mixture carefully over the chilled cream layer, spreading evenly. Refrigerate the entire dessert until the gelatin topping is fully set, typically at least 3 hours.

Notes

  • Ensure the pretzel crust is completely cooled before adding the cream layer to prevent melting and sogginess.
  • Spread the cream layer all the way to the edges to create a seal and prevent the gelatin from seeping through the crust.
  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and texture in the topping layer.
  • This dessert is best served chilled and kept refrigerated until serving to maintain layers and texture.
