Description

A festive and easy-to-make holiday bark featuring layers of rich dark and creamy white chocolate infused with peppermint extract and topped with crushed candy canes for a crunchy, minty finish.

Ingredients

Chocolate Layers

  • 8 oz dark or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 6 oz white chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract

Topping

  • 1/3 cup crushed candy canes

Instructions

  1. Melt Dark Chocolate: Place the dark or semi-sweet chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth.
  2. Spread Dark Chocolate: Pour and evenly spread the melted dark chocolate onto a parchment-lined baking tray, smoothing it out to about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Chill Dark Chocolate: Refrigerate the tray for about 10 minutes until the dark chocolate is just set but not fully hardened.
  4. Melt White Chocolate: In a clean bowl, melt the white chocolate using the microwave in 20-30 second bursts, stirring frequently until smooth.
  5. Add Peppermint Extract: Stir 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract into the melted white chocolate to infuse minty flavor.
  6. Spread White Chocolate: Carefully spread the white chocolate mixture evenly over the chilled dark chocolate layer.
  7. Add Candy Cane Topping: Immediately sprinkle crushed candy canes evenly over the white chocolate layer to adhere as it cools.
  8. Chill to Set: Place the entire tray back into the refrigerator for about 20 minutes or until the bark is firm and fully set.
  9. Break into Pieces: Once firm, break the bark into about 12 irregular pieces and serve or store appropriately.

Notes

  • Use only a small amount of peppermint extract to avoid a too-strong mint flavor.
  • Store peppermint bark in a cool, dry place or refrigerator to prevent melting.
  • Use high-quality chocolate for best flavor and texture.
  • Ensure the candy canes are crushed into small pieces for easier eating.
