Description
A sophisticated and flavorful salad combining sweet caramelized pears, tangy blue cheese, crunchy toasted nuts, and fresh mixed greens, all tossed in a light balsamic vinaigrette for a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and tangy notes.
Ingredients
Caramelized Pears
- 2 ripe pears, sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
Salad
- 6 cups mixed salad greens
- 1/2 cup blue cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup walnuts or pecans, toasted
Dressing
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon honey
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Caramelize the Pears: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced pears and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over them. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the pears are tender and golden caramelized, approximately 5–7 minutes. Once done, remove the skillet from heat and let the pears cool slightly.
- Prepare the Salad Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mixed salad greens, crumbled blue cheese, and toasted walnuts or pecans. Toss gently to distribute the ingredients evenly.
- Make the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper until the dressing is well emulsified and smooth.
- Assemble the Salad: Add the slightly cooled caramelized pear slices to the salad bowl. Drizzle the prepared dressing over the salad ingredients. Toss gently to coat all components evenly with the dressing.
- Serve: Transfer the salad to serving plates or a large salad bowl and serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of warm caramelized pears with cool fresh greens.
Notes
- Use firm-ripe pears to prevent them from becoming too soft during caramelization.
- Substitute goat cheese for blue cheese if a milder flavor is preferred.
- Toasting the nuts enhances their flavor and adds an enjoyable crunch to the salad.
