Ingredients
For the Fish
- 1½ lbs white fish fillets (cod, mahi-mahi, or tilapia)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
Slaw
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- ¼ cup chopped cilantro
- Juice of 1 lime
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Salt to taste
For Serving
- 8 small corn tortillas
- Lime wedges
- Sliced avocado (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the seasoning mixture: In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, lime juice, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Season the fish: Brush the white fish fillets evenly with the prepared seasoning mixture, making sure every side is coated for maximum flavor.
- Grill the fish: Place the fish on a preheated grill over medium heat and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- Make the slaw: In a separate bowl, toss together shredded cabbage, chopped cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, and salt to taste until the cabbage is evenly coated and flavorful.
- Warm the tortillas: Heat the corn tortillas over the grill briefly until warm and pliable, about 30 seconds per side.
- Assemble the tacos: Fill each warmed tortilla with grilled fish and a generous scoop of cabbage slaw. Add sliced avocado if desired.
- Serve: Serve the tacos immediately with lime wedges on the side for extra tang and freshness.
Notes
- Use a grill basket when cooking the fish over a campfire to prevent flaky fish from falling apart through the grates.
- Mango salsa pairs wonderfully with these fish tacos for an added sweet and spicy flavor.
- Serve the tacos immediately while the tortillas are warm for the best texture and taste.
