Ingredients
-
For the Stir-Fry:
-
1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
-
2 tbsp vegetable oil (or sesame oil)
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
-
1 red bell pepper, julienned
-
1/2 cup carrots, julienned
-
2 cups cooked macaroni pasta (or any short pasta of your choice)
-
2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
-
1 tbsp oyster sauce
-
1 tbsp fish sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
-
1/2 tsp black pepper
-
1/4 tsp sugar (to balance flavors)
-
Fresh cilantro or green onions, chopped (for garnish)
-
-
Optional Toppings:
-
Crushed peanuts or cashews
-
- Lime wedges for serving
Instructions
-
Prepare the Beef and Vegetables:
-
Thinly slice the beef against the grain and set it aside.
-
Prepare the vegetables: julienne the bell pepper and carrots, and slice the onion thinly. Set these aside.
-
-
Cook the Pasta:
-
Cook the macaroni pasta according to the package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
-
-
Stir-Fry the Beef:
-
Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
-
Add the sliced beef to the skillet in a single layer and cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
-
-
Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
-
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tbsp of oil.
-
Add the minced garlic and onion, cooking for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
-
Add the bell pepper and carrots to the pan, and stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp.
-
-
Combine the Ingredients:
-
Return the beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Add the cooked macaroni, soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce (if using), black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine, making sure the pasta is evenly coated in the sauce and heated through.
-
-
Serve:
-
Remove the stir-fry from the heat and transfer it to serving plates.
-
- Garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions, and top with crushed peanuts or cashews, if desired. Serve with lime wedges for an extra burst of freshness.
Notes
-
Feel free to use any short pasta you have on hand (penne, fusilli, etc.), but macaroni works best for this dish.
-
You can substitute the beef with chicken, shrimp, or tofu for a different protein.
-
For extra flavor, add a small chili or red pepper flakes to spice things up.
- If you don’t have fish sauce, you can substitute with an additional tablespoon of soy sauce for a milder flavor.
