Description
Thai Basil Beef Rolls are a fresh, vibrant dish that features tender beef, aromatic Thai basil, and a zesty dipping sauce, all wrapped in a chewy rice paper roll. A perfect appetizer or light meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon lime juice
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
- 8–10 rice paper wrappers
- 1/2 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
- 1 cup lettuce leaves (romaine or butter lettuce works well)
- 1/2 cup julienned carrots
- 1/4 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
- Fresh cilantro leaves (optional, for garnish)
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons warm water (adjust to consistency)
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, ginger, and lime juice. Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade and toss to coat. Let the beef marinate for 15-20 minutes in the fridge.
- Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook for 3-5 minutes until cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
- In a shallow dish, dip one rice paper wrapper in warm water for 10-15 seconds until soft and pliable. Place on a clean surface. Layer basil leaves, lettuce, carrots, cucumber, and a portion of the cooked beef in the center.
- Fold the sides of the rice paper and roll up from the bottom to the top. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and fillings.
- For the dipping sauce, whisk together peanut butter, hoisin sauce, lime juice, soy sauce, and brown sugar in a small bowl. Add warm water, one teaspoon at a time, until the sauce reaches a smooth consistency.
- Serve the Thai Basil Beef Rolls with the dipping sauce and garnish with fresh cilantro if desired. Enjoy!
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, substitute the beef with tofu or tempeh and marinate it in the same way as the beef.
- To add heat, include chili flakes or fresh chili peppers in the rolls.
- Mint leaves can be added alongside basil for additional flavor.
- For a heartier roll, consider adding rice noodles or jasmine rice inside the wrapper.
