Ingredients
Cake
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Streusel Topping
- 1/2 cup chopped almonds
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s at the right temperature for baking the cake evenly.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, which helps create a tender crumb.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract thoroughly for flavor.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg, ensuring they are well distributed for even spice and leavening.
- Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix gently to avoid overworking the batter.
- Pour Batter: Pour the prepared batter into a greased or lined baking pan, spreading it evenly.
- Prepare Streusel: In a bowl, mix together chopped almonds, flour, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon until crumbly to form the streusel topping.
- Apply Topping: Sprinkle the streusel mixture evenly over the top of the batter in the pan.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.
Notes
- Add orange zest to the batter or streusel for a bright, festive citrus flavor.
- Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar before serving for a pretty, sweet finishing touch.
