Description
A classic French tart filled with crispy bacon, rich Gruyère cheese, and a creamy custard made from eggs and cream, Quiche Lorraine is perfect for a satisfying brunch or a light lunch.
Ingredients
Crust
- 1 pre-baked pie crust
Filling
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 cup grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- Nutmeg, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the quiche evenly.
- Cook bacon: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Then transfer the bacon to paper towels to drain excess fat.
- Prepare custard mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg until smooth and fully combined.
- Assemble quiche: Scatter the crispy bacon and grated Gruyère cheese evenly over the pre-baked pie crust. Pour the egg and cream mixture evenly over the bacon and cheese filling.
- Bake: Place the assembled quiche in the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is lightly golden brown.
Notes
- Serve the quiche warm or at room temperature for best flavor.
- Quiche Lorraine can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated; reheat gently before serving.
- To make this recipe vegetarian, substitute meatless bacon or omit bacon entirely.
