Description

French Toast Dreams are bite-sized cream cheese-stuffed French toast sandwiches, golden and crisp on the outside with a creamy, cinnamon-sweet center. Perfect for brunch or a special breakfast treat, they’re served warm with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

Ingredients

1 (8-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup powdered sugar, plus more for dusting

1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract, divided

1 tsp. kosher salt, divided

12 (1-oz.) day-old white or brioche bread slices, crusts removed

2/3 cup whole milk or half-and-half

2 Tbsp. granulated sugar

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

4 large eggs

Unsalted butter, for greasing

Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Beat cream cheese until fluffy. Add powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla, and 1/4 tsp salt; mix until smooth.
  2. Spread 2 Tbsp of filling on half the bread slices. Top with remaining slices and cut each sandwich into 4 squares (24 total).
  3. In a shallow dish, whisk milk, granulated sugar, cinnamon, eggs, remaining 1 tsp vanilla, and 3/4 tsp salt until well combined.
  4. Heat a nonstick griddle to 325°F or skillet over medium. Lightly grease with butter.
  5. Dip sandwiches quickly into custard, coating both sides. Cook in batches until golden, 1–2 minutes per side.
  6. Transfer to a plate, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm with maple syrup.

Notes

  • Use challah or cinnamon raisin bread for variation.
  • Try mascarpone, almond extract, or lemon zest in the filling for added flavor.
  • Add fresh berries, jam, Nutella, or chocolate chips before cutting sandwiches for a fun twist.
  • Top with whipped cream, caramel sauce, or caramelized bananas for an indulgent brunch.
