Classic Swiss steak made simple in the slow cooker — tender, slow-cooked round steak simmered in a rich tomato-onion gravy with green peppers and a hint of Worcestershire sauce, perfect for an easy, comforting dinner.
Ingredients
Meat
- 1½ lbs round steak
Vegetables & Sauce
- 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 oz)
- 1 onion, sliced
- 1 green pepper, sliced
Seasonings
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Season the steak: Generously season the round steak on both sides with salt, pepper, and paprika to build flavorful layers before cooking.
- Layer ingredients in the slow cooker: Place the seasoned steak in the bottom of the slow cooker, then add the can of diced tomatoes, sliced onion, and sliced green pepper evenly on top.
- Add Worcestershire sauce and start cooking: Pour the Worcestershire sauce over the ingredients. Cover with the lid and cook on Low for 6 to 7 hours, allowing the steak to become tender and the flavors to meld into a rich tomato-onion gravy.
- Check for tenderness and serve: Once the beef is fork-tender and the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from heat and serve hot with your choice of mashed cauliflower or buttered noodles for a comforting meal.
