Description
A tender and flavorful pot roast slow-cooked with vegetables and savory gravy — classic American comfort food made easy in the crock pot.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 3–4 pound chuck roast
- 1 onion, quartered
- 3 carrots, cut into chunks
- 3 potatoes, quartered
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet brown gravy mix
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Season the Roast: Generously season the chuck roast on all sides with salt, pepper, and thyme to enhance the flavor throughout the meat.
- Arrange in Crock Pot: Place the seasoned roast into the crock pot. Surround it evenly with the quartered onion, carrot chunks, and potato quarters to ensure all ingredients cook together.
- Prepare Gravy Mixture: In a separate bowl, combine the beef broth, brown gravy packet, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well to dissolve the gravy mix completely.
- Add Gravy to Crock Pot: Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the roast and vegetables inside the crock pot, allowing the flavors to meld as it cooks.
- Slow Cook: Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours or on high heat for 4–5 hours, until the roast is tender and easily shredded with a fork.
- Serve: Once cooked, shred or slice the roast as preferred and serve hot with the cooked vegetables and savory gravy from the crock pot.
Notes
- To thicken the gravy, remove 1 cup of cooking liquid and whisk it thoroughly with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Return the mixture to the crock pot and stir well, allowing it to thicken for a few minutes before serving.
