Description

A rich and hearty classic Italian Bolognese sauce made by slow-simmering ground beef with aromatic vegetables, tomato sauce, and a splash of milk and wine, resulting in a deeply flavorful meat sauce perfect for serving over pasta or zucchini noodles.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup red wine (optional)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Italian seasoning, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook Aromatics: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrot, and minced garlic, and sauté for about 3 minutes until the vegetables start to soften and become fragrant.
  2. Brown the Meat: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the aromatics. Cook and stir frequently until the beef is browned thoroughly, breaking it up as it cooks to avoid large chunks.
  3. Add Liquids and Simmer: Pour in the tomato sauce, milk, and red wine (if using). Stir everything to combine well. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning according to your taste. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently, uncovered, for 30 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens into a rich, hearty sauce.

Notes

  • Serve this classic Bolognese over cooked spaghetti, tagliatelle, or your favorite pasta shape.
  • For a low-carb option, serve it over zucchini noodles.
  • Top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese for added flavor.
  • Optionally, use beef broth in place of wine if you prefer not to cook with alcohol.
