Description
A timeless classic apple pie featuring tender, cinnamon-spiced apples encased in a flaky, buttery double crust. Perfect for holidays and cozy gatherings, this recipe balances sweet and tart apples with warm spices to create an irresistible dessert.
Ingredients
Pie Crust
- 1 double pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
Filling
- 6 cups sliced apples (a mix of tart and sweet apples recommended)
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 tbsp butter
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and salt to evenly coat and flavor the fruit.
- Assemble the Pie: Place one pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate and pour in the apple filling. Dot the filling evenly with small pieces of butter to add richness.
- Add the Top Crust: Cover the filling with the second pie crust and crimp the edges firmly to seal the pie. Cut a few vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.
- Bake the Pie: Preheat the oven to 400°F (205°C). Bake the pie for 45 to 50 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Cool Before Serving: Allow the pie to cool completely, about 1 to 2 hours, so the filling can set properly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use a combination of tart apples (like Granny Smith) and sweet apples (like Fuji or Honeycrisp) for balanced flavor and texture.
- If the crust edges brown too quickly during baking, cover them with foil or a pie shield to prevent burning.
- Let the pie cool fully before slicing to avoid a runny filling.
