Description
Soft, fluffy cinnamon rolls swirled with a buttery brown sugar cinnamon filling and topped with a creamy vanilla glaze — the ultimate homemade breakfast or brunch treat.
Ingredients
Dough Ingredients
- 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Filling
- 3 tbsp butter, softened
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tbsp milk or cream
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Stir lightly and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Knead the dough for 3 to 4 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Cover the dough with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Prepare filling and roll dough: Roll the risen dough out on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture on top.
- Form rolls: Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the log into 10 to 12 equal-sized rolls with a sharp knife.
- Second rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking pan, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
- Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown on top and cooked through.
- Glaze and serve: Mix powdered sugar, milk or cream, and vanilla extract in a small bowl to create the glaze. Drizzle over the warm rolls before serving for a luscious finish.
Notes
- For an overnight version, refrigerate the sliced rolls before the second rise and bake the next day.
- Enhance richness by using a cream cheese frosting instead of glaze.
- To make a low-carb version, almond flour can be used in place of all-purpose flour.
