Description

Soft, pillowy naan brushed with melted garlic butter—perfect for scooping up curries, serving with grilled meats, or enjoying as a warm snack straight from the pan.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup plain yogurt
  • ¼ cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons oil or melted butter

For the Garlic Butter:

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Stir in yogurt, warm milk, and oil until dough comes together. Knead on a floured surface for 5–6 minutes until smooth.
  2. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and rest for 1 hour.
  3. Divide dough into 6–8 equal balls. Roll each out into an oval or round shape.
  4. Heat a cast-iron skillet or nonstick pan over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 1–2 minutes per side until bubbly and golden spots form.
  5. Mix melted butter with garlic and cilantro. Brush over hot naan before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle naan with nigella seeds or sesame seeds before cooking.
  • Can be made with whole wheat flour for a heartier version.
  • Store leftovers in foil and reheat in the oven or skillet.
