Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or coconut aminos for gluten-free)

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for cooking)

  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced

  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced

  • 1 small onion, sliced

  • 1 medium zucchini, sliced

  • 1 cup broccoli florets

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated

  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thickening)

  • 1 tbsp water (if using cornstarch)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

  • Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Stir Fry Sauce:

    • In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. If you want a thicker sauce, mix 1 tsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp water and add it to the sauce mixture. Set aside.

  • Cook the Beef:

    • Heat 1 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced beef and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.

  • Stir-Fry the Vegetables:

    • In the same pan, add the remaining 1 tbsp vegetable oil. Add the onions, bell peppers, zucchini, and broccoli. Stir-fry for 4-5 minutes, or until the vegetables are just tender but still crisp.

  • Add Garlic and Ginger:

    • Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan with the vegetables and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  • Combine Beef and Sauce:

    • Return the cooked beef to the pan with the vegetables. Pour the prepared stir fry sauce over the beef and vegetables. Stir everything together to coat evenly. If using cornstarch, the sauce should thicken in about 2-3 minutes.

  • Serve:

  • Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Serve the stir fry over a bed of rice or noodles and garnish with sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

  • For added flavor, drizzle a little extra sesame oil over the stir-fry just before serving.

  • Feel free to substitute the vegetables with your favorites such as snap peas, carrots, or mushrooms.

  • To make this a low-carb dish, serve with cauliflower rice instead of regular rice.

  • You can marinate the beef in a portion of the stir-fry sauce for 20-30 minutes before cooking for extra flavor.
