Ingredients
-
For the Burger Patties:
-
1 lb ground beef (preferably lean)
-
1/2 cup cooked bulgur wheat (cooled)
-
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
-
1 clove garlic, minced
-
1 egg
-
1/4 tsp salt
-
1/4 tsp black pepper
-
1 tsp dried oregano (optional)
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
-
-
For the Toppings:
-
4 slices cheddar cheese (or cheese of choice)
-
4 burger buns (whole grain or your preference)
-
Lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles (optional)
-
- Ketchup, mustard, or mayo (optional)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Bulgur Wheat:
-
Cook the bulgur wheat according to package instructions. Typically, you’ll combine 1/2 cup bulgur with 1/2 cup boiling water, cover, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork and set aside to cool.
-
-
Make the Patties:
-
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, cooled bulgur wheat, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until well combined, but avoid overworking the mixture.
-
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form them into patties.
-
-
Cook the Patties:
-
Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat and lightly oil it.
-
Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. About 1 minute before they’re done, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
-
-
Toast the Buns:
-
While the patties are cooking, toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or in a separate pan for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
-
-
Assemble the Burger:
-
Place the cooked patties on the bottom half of the toasted buns.
-
Add any additional toppings you like, such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, ketchup, mustard, or mayo.
-
Top with the other half of the bun.
-
-
Serve and Enjoy:
- Serve the Beef and Bulgur Wheat Cheeseburgers with a side of fries, salad, or your favorite side dish.
Notes
-
You can substitute the ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
-
Bulgur wheat adds a lovely texture and nutty flavor to the burger, but if you prefer a smoother patty, you can try substituting it with breadcrumbs.
- These patties can be prepped ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours before cooking.
