Description
A hearty and traditional British comfort food, featuring savory pork sausages paired with creamy mashed potatoes and topped with a rich, flavorful onion gravy made from caramelized onions and beef broth.
Ingredients
Sausages and Mash
- 8 pork sausages
 - 2 lbs potatoes, peeled
 - 2 tablespoons butter
 - ½ cup milk

Onion Gravy
- 2 onions, sliced
 - 2 cups beef broth
 - 1 tablespoon flour
 - Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions
- Cook Sausages: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the pork sausages until they are nicely browned on all sides and cooked through, about 12-15 minutes. Remove sausages and keep warm.
 - Prepare Mashed Potatoes: While sausages cook, bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add peeled potatoes and cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well, then mash the potatoes with butter and milk until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
 - Cook Onions: In the same skillet used for the sausages, add the sliced onions. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-12 minutes.
 - Make Onion Gravy: Sprinkle the flour over the caramelized onions and stir well to coat. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, continuing to stir to prevent lumps. Simmer the gravy until it thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
 - Assemble and Serve: Place a generous serving of mashed potatoes on each plate, arrange sausages on top, and pour the onion gravy over everything. Serve hot for a comforting meal.

Notes
- For a sweeter, richer gravy, allow the onions to caramelize slowly until deep golden brown.
 - You can substitute beef broth with vegetable broth for a lighter flavor.
 - Adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the gravy enhances the umami taste.
 - To make the dish gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour or cornstarch to thicken the gravy.
